Innovation for Smarter Water Safety
Can all the waters of the world be turned into sources of information for predictive safety?
The mining industry is the world’s largest single producer of waste. Every year, it leaves behind billions of tons of tailings—that is, fine-grained waste produced when valuable metals are separated from ore.
Betolar has developed a process that can extract up to 99 percent of the critical minerals contained in tailings. From the remaining material, the process produces green cement, whose carbon dioxide emissions are up to 90 percent lower than those of traditional cement.

Globally, the mining industry produces approximately 14 billion tons of tailings that end up as waste each year. The amount of previously stored tailings is estimated at 217 billion tons.
The world’s largest waste problem is solved where it was created.
